| segment | A segment is a piece of a given frames pipeline
reduction (run : rerun : camcol), covering a piece of a scanline, bounded on the east and west by lines
of constant mu. Because segments are defined before
the primary area of a stripe, segments can actually go beyond the eta limits of a stave (and a chunk). Indeed, near the very end of a stripe (near
the poles), a segment may fall completely outside a stave.
